About this Beach

Cala Cartoe is a striking beach near Dorgali on Sardinia's east coast, where a broad river valley meets the sea between dramatic limestone ridges. The beach features a mix of sand and fine pebbles, with striking rust-colored cliffs contrasting against the deep blue water. Unlike many sheltered coves along this coast, Cala Cartoe is more exposed to the open sea, occasionally producing excellent surf conditions that attract bodyboarders and surfers. The underwater terrain features interesting rock formations perfect for snorkeling. A seasonal freshwater stream crosses the beach, creating a small estuary habitat. The valley behind the beach is lush with oleanders and wild vegetation. Access is via a scenic dirt road that winds through the countryside, adding to the sense of adventure.

We loved this beach! It was clean, free parking, a windy road, a food truck (cash only - sanwhich was €7, 2 scoops of gelato ice cream was €4 - v tasty!). The winds gave us great waves, and it got deep fast, so we had a blast! Water was warm, some sea weed, lifeguard on duty.. toilets are €1. You can rent umbrellas and deck chairs, and they set you up. We had our own so not sure of prices. The young chaps setting these up are curious and friendly. They helped a group of people with disabilities so we'll. Impressive all around. Our favourite beach so far!!

Our favorite beach on Sardinia. Great swimming and good snorkeling on either end of the beach. The sandwich/drink van is nice to have, but bring cash. No or minimal mobile data/phone service.

Beautiful white sandy beach, not too crowded, crystal clear water. Fairly windy but didn’t affect our day.

It is not very large but a very beautiful beach. It has natural beauty with big stones, clear warm and deep water, and green mountains. You can see a lot of mountains by going deeper into the water. It is an amazing view. It has a good size cafeteria where they sell hot sandwiches, hot coffee and tea, beer, other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, vegetable salads and freshly cleaned and prepared in boxes fruits. There are a lot of free parking around. There are also toilets but it cost 1 euro. Also, the road is winding. So I am recommending being very careful driving on bends and driving with a minimal speed since the view is limited and you will not see any cars around the corner at all.
