About this Beach

Is Arutas is one of the most geologically unique beaches in the Mediterranean, famous for its sand composed entirely of tiny grains of quartz in shades of white, pink, and pale green. Located on the Sinis Peninsula near Cabras, this beach stretches along the wild western coast of Sardinia. The quartz grains create a distinctive crunching sound underfoot and give the water an extraordinary clarity. The sea here is typically calm and the colors range from pale jade to deep sapphire. Strong mistral winds can occasionally create exciting surf conditions. Is Arutas is a protected natural area; removing quartz sand is strictly prohibited and carries heavy fines. The beach retains a wonderfully unspoiled atmosphere with limited facilities, making it a favorite of nature purists and photographers.

A white coarse grain quartz “sand” beach. Quite special. The water is very clear and we enjoyed swimming in it. The waves weren’t too big although you get deep very quickly. There are showers to get the salt and the sand off. We came by bike so parking wasn’t a cost or problem. If to go further south along the dirt road then the parking is free.

The water was crystal clear. Perfect for snorkelling and just enjoying the underwater life. Full of 🐠🐟Beautiful quartz covered beach and azure blue sea. It is so serene and peaceful even though it was crowded becauae it was high season💙 There is a parking nearby, restaurants and bars.

A stunning beach with crystal-clear water and surreal colors that seem almost unreal. The shoreline is covered with unique quartz "rice-grain" sand that gives the place a magical appearance and feels great underfoot. The sand is made of tiny, polished grains of quartz, giving it a distinctive white, pink, and green appearance. It’s a paradise for nature lovers and perfect for a peaceful day by the sea. *Heads-up:* As the sun begins to set, be prepared — the mosquitoes come out in full force and they don’t hold back! Bring repellent if you plan to stay late.

Arrived early in the morning around 9.30. Payed parking not cheap. 8.50euro for 6 hours or 10 euro for the all day. From the parking there à several paths to walk. The one nicer than the other with a small bridge to pass. Today no beach garde and no marking of the safe swimming area. The beach was today after the big rain and thunder showers à little bit mixed with dry grass. There are a lot of rocks, small and big to take care of. Even for your parasol you have to find the right spot to dig into the risotto liked small stone beach. The sea was calm and enough places to install yourself. Overall an ok beach. Don’t forget to follow the local restrictions of the Sardinia beaches with big fines.
